CENTRAL JUDGING OF DISPLAY BANDS (SECONDARY SCHOOLS)

The SYF Central Judging of Display Bands for secondary schools will be held in April 2006. Details are as follows:
Date : 22 April 2006 (Saturday)
23 April 2006 (reserved date)
Time : 5.00 pm
Venue: National Stadium
Schools are allowed to combine their bands to participate in the Central Judging.
To recognise the outstanding achievement of schools that have attained high performance standards, a new award, "Gold with Honours", will be awarded to schools that score 85% and above at the Central Judging. The other awards will be awarded as follows: Gold – 80-84%, Silver – 70-79%, Bronze – 60-69, Certificate of Participation – 59% and below.
The top display bands at the Central Judging will qualify for the SYF Display Band Competition (secondary schools) to vie for the "Secondary School Display Band of the Year" award at the SYF Opening Ceremony on Saturday, 1 July 2006
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. PERFORMANCE
The whole performance must be confined to the performance area only, which is the field area.
2. DURATION
2.1 The duration of the performance should not exceed 8 minutes. The drum major/majorette starts the performance by dipping the mace, and ends by the saluting to the panel of adjudicators.
2.2 10% of the final marks awarded will be deducted for any performance that exceeds the stipulated time.
3. PARTICIPANTS
3.1 The strength of the band should range from 48 to 128 participants, excluding the drum major/majorette. All participants must be current students of the school. They are required to be in their respective band uniform. Schools are required to submit a certified list of all participants using the form at ANNEX C. 10% of the final marks awarded will be deducted for bands that field less than 48 or more than 128 participants.
3.2 Schools may include auxiliary group, that is, pom-pom groups, dancers, flag bearers and baton twirlers, in their display formations. This auxiliary group must not be more than 30% of the strength of the band. Any type of musical instruments would not be considered as part of the auxiliary group.
3.3 Schools are required to adhere to the reporting time allocated. Schools that do not adhere to the reporting time will have 5% of the final awarded marks deducted.

4.2 The decision of the panel of adjudicators is final and no appeals will be entertained.
5. AWARDS
The Central Judging provides the opportunity for bands to benchmark their performance standards. Participating schools will be awarded certificates based on their performance. There is no predetermined number of gold with honours, gold, silver or bronze awards.
